Description
I thought it was time my mom got a computer makeover. She had a Dell XPS 8700, and I didn't exactly tell her I was taking apart her computer, so when she came home, she was pretty pissed at me because she couldn't complete her work.
There was so much new stuff I wanted to buy, yet I didn't want to spend all my dad's money before Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I kinda annoyed the crap out of him, so he just left his credit card on the counter and went to the basement to watch some movie. I might have gotten more than I was supposed to (the LED fans) but ehhh they're pretty cheap.
At first, I was just going to use the power supply from my mom's Dell computer, but it had no MOLEX pins for my LED, and it only had a 4-pin EPS cable, and my motherboard has an 8-pin socket. Also, it was silver and my case was black. My dad doesn't understand, but color coding matters! I found the CX550M on Amazon for $50, so I told my dad I had to get it (I mainly wanted it for the LEDs), and he finally gave in. Some of the pictures I posted have the old power supply, and that is why some of the cables are multi-colored.
I know in the pictures the cable management looks terrible, but that is because I'm actually supposed to be doing my homework right now. I'm going to fix it later.
PROCESSOR
I used this processor because it was in my mom's Dell computer, and it's a perfectly good and fast i7. It wayyyy excedes her needs.
CPU COOLER
My mom had a stock cpu cooler in her computer, and it was gross and ugly. Her CPU temp at idle with this stock cooler was 40 degrees! Not only does the 212 EVO look decently good with LED fans on, but it cools way better than the stock cooler. I wanted a Cryorig C7 or H7, though, but I was not about to wait for 2 - 3 weeks for it to arrive. I don't got that kind of patients.
MOTHERBOARD
I wanted a motherboard that looks cool, has great reviews, can last a long time, and has great features, so I got this. I don't yet know if it meets all that criteria, but it did have great reviews, looks cool, and is said to have more than enough features.
MEMORY
I wanted some cool looking RAM, but then I would have 16gb of perfectly good RAM just laying around in my house. It would go to waste. Also, 16gb of RAM is pretty expensive.
SSD
My dad initially bought this SSD for his very, very old HP Touchsmart because its hard drive failed. He stopped using that computer a while ago, so this SSD has just been sitting around collecting dust. Therefore, I thought it was time to speed up my mom's computer a bit.
HARD DRIVE
This is the hard drive from my mom's Dell Computer. She needs 1.25TB of storage total, you know, for all those word docs that she works on. Hah, just kidding, she probably won't even use 5% of all that storage.
VIDEO CARD
I bought this graphics card for my computer, but then I realized that it was not that great, so I bought myself a 1060. Then, I thought to myself, who better to give this to than my mom, who watches youtube videos occasionally? Nobody! So I just put it in her computer.
CASE
I bought myself a Corsair Spec-02, and I really regret it because its so chunky and huge. Thus, for my mom, I wanted to go for something smaller, so I got the Core V21. Little did I know that it is actually super wide. The problem I have with this case is the power button, I "work" on the opposite side of the desk as her, and it's super easy for me to accidentally press the power button on her computer and shut it down.
POWER SUPPLY
Ayy! When I built my own computer, I didn't know the difference between modular and non-modular, so when I tried to do cable management in my computer, I cried. I found this semi-modular power supply on Amazon for a discount because of Black Friday week. How could I not buy it? It even comes with black cables!
CASE FANS and LED STRIPS
I just like the computers I build to light up... and Ya. I guess they have to be as cool as possible...
EXTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE
My mom's pretty old. She still uses CDs. :D (I'm sorry if I offended you)
