Description

360 Radiator a bit tight with the additional exhaust fan also, Had to maneuver a bit but got it in. Cooler Master RGB hub very handy to minmize ports needed and to synchronize. Performing well, XMP II profile, running at 4.8ghz / 3600mhz, yet to overclock further. Pulling steady 240 fps Fortnite with high settings. Vertical GPU mount was from Cablemod, very good as it gets the card off the glass and into the centre as a feature centrally in the case. I have a very happy boy, as he upgraded fromm old DDR3 system :)

Great build. I love the vertical mounting of GPUs! My only nit is that the AIO pump cable detracts from the beauty of your hardware.

Great job!

  • 4 years 7 months ago

Yer I know, I have moved it and twisted it and this spot was about the best. I watched heaps of vids re pump placement etc and went for the more air intake from the open front without the rad. I wanted to top mount it spun around the other way, which as you said got the pipes out of the way. But I couldn't mount it like that as it hit the case usb / power button cables one end, and the extra exhaust fan i put in at the other end. This was a comprimise. I actually put the pipes one behind the other, but i was out voted as my son likes the look of them being cabled together. Cheers :)

I hear ya! Some of the AIO cables can be challenging. If you have time, you may want to consider going back to your original idea of placement of the rad in the front. Have fans on pull and leave the ones a top on push. It's a mesh front (I think) so I don't think fresh air coming in would be an issue if you did that. Anyway, I can relate with the veto power of our boys . . . mine did the same to me on a past build.

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

Yes it is the mesh version case TD500. I will consider and review / monitor temps and see how it goes. Running well at the moment with the first few tests. Now to run the Asus AI overclock tweaks ! :)

Very attractive! Nice high end components. The wattage on the psu VERY cool.

*Is that a 32 oz bottle? The perspective on that pic makes your son look very small ha!

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

Thankyou, yes probably not the most stringent cost choices but i liked these products for varying reasons. 32 oz is about 1 litre, the bottle is a 1.25 litre we call it here :) He is very happy with his gameplay on the new computer, can do fast edits and take walls now he reckons.. :-)

I will run some tests, all I've done so will far is set XMP II profile to get ram to 3600. Unlocked all chores and power limits. Set cache to 48 and all chore clock to 4.8. Is running fine with heaps of speed so I like it there. I did get it to 5.1 but that was with 1.5v and I'd rather lose slight gain for increased longevity and system running cooler. I will post if I benchmark. I did run Heaven bench and it went really well, thanks :)

Hey, Love this build, i think i will build something very similar in a few months. I've decided to use the ml360r + td500 mesh + a ml120r just like this build, but I'm wondering how you synced all the fans

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

Hey, I used the hub that comes with the cooler. Use the cables from the case and cooler to put 3-1, then into the hub. Then I've used the hub in by-pass mode. Being an Asus Aura board I then synced the board with the fans, and the GSkill ram is also compatible. The power supply is also in the loop, as it has an ARGB header out. I plugged that straight into the board. This is the part... https://www.coolermaster.com/au/en-au/catalog/coolers/rgb-accessories/argb-led-controller/ I was gonna buy the additional hub, but with the above parts had enough splitters and ports to fit everything as it was, Good Luck :)

lastwhisper04
  • 4 years 7 months ago

did both the case and the aio come with a 3to1 splitter? Thx for explaining.

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

AIO comes with the hub splitter box, the case comes with the splitter leads for the fans. One or both must of also come with another 3-1 splitter cable as i got everything connected. Unless there was one that came with the motherboard? I can't remember exactly sorry. Not hard to get 3-1 splitters anyway. I forgot to mention before too and realised when i was just looking at it that the AIO pump is also ARGB and synced in the loop off the hub. It has four inputs.

Nice build! How are your CPU temps with that cooler?

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

I'd have to check again but pretty sure idle around 30 and under heavy load peaks up to 70? Drops back down straight away after being under load so I was pretty impressed with that.

LeJuan_James

In order for the PSU's OLED display to be visible, the fan has to be facing upwards right? Is it safe to do that because I don't think I see slits above it for air to flow to your PSU. I am wondering because I want to use the same PSU and the case I want does not have slits above the PSU

AidosPC
  • 4 years 5 months ago

Hey mate, I get your point. The case exhaust is at the bottom of the PSU. I just had a look and there is eight small holes in that top part of the psu shroud. There is also a bit of clearance between the top of the psu and the shroud. So it can suck it in from the sides? That said it runs that cool I don't think it's much of an issue. Technically you are right and in a perfect world... But how good is showing live watts !! That was a main feature for me buying it, and I'm not gonna turn upside and not be able to see it. Even maxxed out it hardly breaks a sweat at peaks of 300w. Here is a video @ about 6mins he downplays the importance of having absolute clearance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfEDLSi--Mg Cheers, GL

  • 4 years 5 months ago

Thanks so much! Since you don't experience any problems with mounting it like that, it makes me feel comfortable in doing the same. I will definitely still buy this PSU for my build.

TheoP56
  • 4 years 5 months ago

Nice build!

Two questions though: 1. Are the pre-installed fans loud? 2. Is the side panel glass or acrylic?

AidosPC
  • 4 years 5 months ago

Hey Theo, The fans are not bad, I run them at about 30-70% and they are not loud. At 100 % you can hear them, with a bit of buzz / drone sound. All in all quite good, sound versus performance. Side panel is glass, with the etching lines design. Cheers :)

Hi i have the same case and was thinking of use the rog thor psu. Does the psu shroud hinder the airflow to the psu?

AidosPC
  • 4 years 2 months ago

Yes see above, someone already asked me this. It has a gap at the top and it is also open at the end, so can still get a fair amount of air flow. In a perfect world Yes is would be fully open / grated at the top. The psu runs so cool it doesn't effect it anyway.

Love it been fine, build more than six months old now hasn't missed beat. Would recommend. The fans are no Noctuas, but the case runs soundly. Great air flow. Looks great with rgb, hub works fine. We are very happy with it, solid case. Get good comments on etched glass side view door.

Thankyou very much, took a long time researching parts. Looking at builds on here. My son is very happy. This is my first build from scratch. I am quite proud and happy. Cable management could of been a bit tidier behind the cover, but is ok. I got it shut !! ;)

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

Yes 240 fps on an Alienware 240hz 24.5 inch monitor. Can now also run captures in the background and spotify, other tasks etc. Old build used to crash when multiple apps open. It will go to 300fps but staedy at 240 capped seems nice sweet spot. :)

The ram is 32gb for that price, I don't know what I did wrong there sorry.

You could have sold the GPU, bought a cheaper mother board, bought cheaper SSD, and gotten a better processor and GPU

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

Yer you don't get much for them second hand, it still goes good. I got the board as we like the features for now and the future ( other than gen 4 ) The i5 OC is pretty good bang for buck imo, keeping up close to the other chips after OC'ing. See how we go. I just love the Samsung drives too, quality imo. Thanks :)

Not sure about low settings but have it set at mostly high and capped at a steady 240fps. I will try low settings next time i'm on :)

Hey, My son set it on mostly low settings and it got 360-400fps on 1080p He has mostly high settings and has it capped and runs steady 240fps. He likes it there. He just came 100th in Australasia tournament, he loves the Fortnite competitions too. Re OC, I initally just set XMP II, sync all chores, remove all power limits and enabled hyperthreading. I set clock at 4.8 all chores and 48 cache. It ran well and cool, using about 1.3v I just had a play yesterday with the Asus AI autoclock, It put it at about 5.0 peak, 4.8, 4.9 normal load. Chores not synced but AI optimized. They used more volts to get this, about 1.425v It still runs cool, idle about 30 and peaks to 70 odd My son said he couldn't tell much differnence between my OC and the Asus AI 3 Suite. See how we go... Good luck with your comps :)

No, he hasn't entered a tournament with his new rig yet. When he came 100th he should of got a $5k laptop, but he didn't understand the rules properly that you also had to collect apples. I imagine with his new pc now he most likely will. Keep you posted :) Goodluck

I don't know it said 2 x 8gb it was 4 x 8gb, 32 gb total for that price. Don't be disapointed, we are not. We just love the look of the ram, GL

Yer Cablemod vertical GPU mount is good as it moves the card to the centre of the case, getting it off the glass. Hopefully this will help with temps. It also looks cool imo as it puts it right in the centre of the build. Thankyou :)

Bunkmuffin
  • 4 years 3 months ago

Have you info on the clearance from the glass with the riser cable please?

Did you benchmark horizontal vs vertical mounting by any chance?

AidosPC
  • 4 years 3 months ago

Only ever fitted vertically, the distance from the glass is quite far. The card is almost centred to the case. That's why i went the Cablemod over say the Cooler Master, Phanteks ones etc Cheers :)

Yer I have a samsung 1tb ssd out of his old build I can put in and heaps of other 1 tb hdd's that I can add. He just wanted to play and use it, so I put it together but will go back and at least fit the samsung 1tb ssd ( non m.2 ) You need 850w for more RGB !!! ;) Yer I know psu overkill, but I tend to buy then next build would use this, or if I run SLI in this one. Buy another RTX 2060 second hand if I came across one? Plus I just love the live wattage and rgb, veiwing it realtime thru the case, Cheers :)

AidosPC
  • 4 years 7 months ago

Yes psu is overkill although I take parts from one build to the next, and also gives me the option for possibly picking up another second hand RTX 2060 and running dual sli setup. I just loved the live wattage window of the thor psu's, and the rgb fitted the theme. I also watched a fair few videos on psu testing. There is one the guys tests stable current with all these meters and machines. He showed that a higher current platinum psu provided a much more stable current when running well under its limitations, than a lower watt near its high limits under relative high load.
