Update Jan 1, 2017: The entry period has ended. Thanks to everyone who entered! MSI is working to validate entries and will contact the winners soon to confirm eligibility. We'll update this post again once we have the winners list ready to announce!

Original Post:

Our friends at MSI want you to dream big this holiday season. Create a part list up to $3000 USD around your favorite MSI motherboard and graphics card, then they will select three random entrants to win their part list!

Enter here: MSI Pick Your Holiday Dream PC Giveaway

Your part list entry must include the following:

  • MSI Motherboard
  • MSI Video Card (limit 2)
  • CPU
  • CPU Cooler
  • Memory
  • Storage (HDD and/or SSD, multiple allowed)
  • Case
  • Power Supply

Additionally, your part list may include parts from these categories as well:

  • Monitor (limit 1)
  • Case fans
  • Accessories: Mouse, Keyboard, and headphones

The part list must show as compatible on PCPartPicker. No other part categories or custom parts will be allowed and all parts must have prices listed via PCPartPicker (no custom prices). Total part list price for your entry must not exceed $3000 after shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts. Reasonable consideration will be given for minor price fluctuations after submitting your entry.

Pick your parts carefully before submitting, as an invalid part list will be disqualified and you cannot change your part list after submitting your entry.

Winners will be drawn at random from all valid entries. The giveaway is open to all regions, except where prohibited or restricted by law. Must be at least 18 years old to enter. Entry period ends December 31, 2016 at 11:59 PM (PST). See the giveaway page for complete rules, terms and conditions.

A big thanks to MSI for putting this great giveaway together!

so i unknowingly submitted what wasn't a permalink but just a url to a saved parts list that was later deleted. anything that can be done for an idiot like myself?

only one entry per account as you must know. and making a second account for a giveaway feels dirty plus might it have other implications. i tried messaging their fb page but they said nothing could be done once i submitted something even if it was a flub. on the bright side this issue lead me to discover the other daily contests you guys are having through out the next two weeks. great stuff that you guys are so giving this season!

Do past winners get to win again? I mean Jipster is pretty much the most popular guy here so if there is a peoples pick he is pretty much a shoe in for it again.

*Not that Im angry, far from it. Insanely jealous about the set ups dude is gonna have in the next 2 years based on giveaway winnings pretty much sums it up. :)

  • 8 points

Winners will be drawn at random from all valid entries.

Nope, full on luck

But Jipster could still win... right? So say he has great "luck" this year, I still would be jealous of him.

But srsly half the build is a monitor....

Here is my try, yes i know a 6950x is a bit much, there are more than a few reasons for it.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y7rNYr

  • 3 points

Reasons. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Because I can, damnit!

  • 1 point

Reason 1: Man does my house need a new server computer, these old vishera chips are HOT.

Reason 2: Video Editing off of multiple sources and from multiple computers.

Reason 3: Mild gaming on two monitors in separate rooms while recording and editing.

Reason 4: Low Temperatures for multiple massive actions with a(n) quiet air cooler.

Reason 5:(i have never counted this high before.) Its replacing an old editing rig in size, weight and appearance, while still remaining quiet powerful at multitasking.

Even if it wont always be editing video. I need a pc that can work over a server for a small to medium family, and crush these things without relying on a xeon, or similar processor.

Okay, submitted my entry, now we form a pentagram, light all corners and place Gaben in the middle and pray patiently wait and hope for the best.

Here's my build, kinda pleased I managed to throw in a good set of MKB+mouse+headphones.

Mabye you could try liquid cooling instead of the 212 evo. Mabye one like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Dz648d/deepcool-captain-240ex-white-1530-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-captain-240ex-white

I honestly thought about liquid cooling but inexperience told me to take the safe route. I would hate to fry that beautiful set up. This would be my first true build from scratch. I've replaced laptop monitors, processors etc.. yet never had anything liquid cooled. Spent most of my life staring at 15 fps till my son sent me this tower that sits next to me. Bought me an a8 7600 with an r7 and boy did my eye's open when I seen WoW running at 40fps lol. Two months later legion launched and I wished I had spent the extra money for something a little stronger. It still does some light gaming but many of the titles I own it doesn't play without me pulling my hair out lol.

This is my dream build. I don't have much space so that's why the Mini-ITX Build and 24" Monitor. But the butter-smooth 144Hz refresh rate and G-Sync is what matters to me, more so than mere resolution. 60Hz is painful! lol.

Im curious, since its been said our contest hosts can see(and I'd assume, will use) the price history graph to confirm builds were less than $3000 when submitted. when I look at the graph of a build that was under 3000 but now above it looks like it has never been below 3000(was about $10 under when submitted).... currently sitting at $3015 but looks like $3300, and doesn't give hover over prices and dates(like the graphs for the individual items do). Is this skewed graph image unique to my browser settings or is it what everyone sees.... Seems to me, unless they recorded the price when it was submitted(which would leave no need to mention the price history graph) they would have to go to the price history of each item in the build and check that graph for the submission date then add up the total. Huge props to MSI if they are going thru all that(or have a script that does, or have a way I dont know of). but anyway, after looking at a few of the part list graphs, it makes me hope people that made builds near the threshold aren't being unintentionally brushed aside. makes me hope its just my browser setting that are throwing of the graphs for me.

  • 2 points

I too, seem to have the same problem. My graph was waay above $3000 even though the price was more like $2950.

  • 2 points

I think that the price shown is without discounts and rebates.

So i have a question.

It says The part list must show as compatible on PCPartPicker in the giveaway.

Will Compatibility Check: See notes below. Some Intel X99 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Broadwell-E CPUs. also be accepted?

That should be fine unless it state it not fully compatible.

Well I asked Boyscout and he told me this:

You can just leave the default value. There's nothing in the rules specifying a particular rate, just that the total price at the bottom of the system page (after taxes, shipping, rebates etc) be the value that is under $3000 USD.

It's a permalink, they will still be able to see the original build you provided. I think...

  • 1 point

Changing components once you submitted the permalink doesn't change anything on the build you submitted and it cannot be deleted. Only "Saved Builds" in your profile can be changed or edited. Your original submission should be fine, and editing your System Build doesn't change it.

If you are still using the same PC you originally created the build with and have not logged out, you can get back to your permalink by checking your part list History (upper right, next to "Save As" on the System Build page).

That's fine. If it was available when submitted, chances are it will be available again at the end of the giveaway. But if a component is unavailable when the giveaway period ends, MSI may work with the winner to select a comparable alternative.

That simply refers to the total listed at the bottom of the System Build page, not for you to necessarily do anything special.

This is mine... Simple and straight forward. I don't need some $3,000 monster rig for casual gaming. I hope I get picked...I screwed up during the last contest.

If you can, then why not?I think, you your build can cost up to 3000dollars.

Because I don't need to. This rig will do whatever I need it to do without any problems.

Did you submit a permalink or a saved part list link? Permalinks can never be deleted.
