Description

All for 1080p gaming, prices reflect Black Friday pricing, everything marked as $0.00 I already had/owned, benchmarks to come! I changed the Asus Strix RX480 graphics card, to White LED (not a perfect white because ASUS didn't add a white LED to the RGB setup) but it looks good. CPU 65 degrees C after an hour of prime95, max GPU was 67 degrees C on Fire Strike stress test. I also originally used the Corsair H80i for the liquid CPU cooler, I found this a little bulky while mounting it on the back exhaust port, I swapped it to a corsair H60, with similar results on cooler temp performance, slightly overclocked to 4.5GHz. Case airflow is on the positive air pressure side, no fan controllers. Runs all games on ultra AMD FreeSync turned on. 3DMark Fire strike Benchmark: 12762

Part Reviews

CPU

Awesome CPU, can't go wrong with the Skylake i7 unlocked CPU, got it for a awesome price on black Friday. Smooth streaming, etc, overclock to 4.5GHz.

CPU Cooler

Great budget AiO CPU cooler, 120mm, perfect for rear mounted rads, Corsair. Keeps the i7 6700K below 70C with overclock on load.

Motherboard

Great motherboard, alot of overclocking features, MSI, no issues so far, the PCB is very thick and sturdy, plenty of pci-e ports and sata ports.

Memory

great memory, looks good with the white leds along with the white/black themed build. Fast memory, 2666 MHz.

Storage

Great budget SSD boot/storage drive, 525GB, very quick, cruical.

Storage

Good reliable mechanical HHD for storage, a bit noisy though (overpowers the fans) 1TB.

Case

Great case, both aesthetically and functionality, high airflow with 140mm fans, a tad bigger than other MID ATX cases that i have used, brushed aluminum front grill and bay covers.

Power Supply

Great power supply, this is a replacement to my first one that i purchased, it was having some bad coil wine, a google search revealed that some of these had a coil wine issue. Runs cool, no other issues at this point, 750W.

Case Fan

Great fans, White leds look great, not too bright, near silent fans, moves a ton of air, positive air pressure setup, no fan controller.

Monitor

Great 1080p 1ms freesync 144hz monitor, very smooth and good color. The monitor is very bright, i turned the brightness down to 30%, win for AOC, great price also.

Mouse

My goto mouse, decent price, high dpi, rgb colors look phenomenal, very smooth, solid construction.

Custom

Great plastic mousepad, rgb led strip around the edges of the pad, looks great, extra usb port required.

Awesome build! Love the color scheme. Do you have exhaust on top and the front/aio cooler intake?

Exhaust on top, when I had the H80i it was exhausted out the rear, now I have the fan pull ambient air through the rad into the case, ty for the comment :)

How do you like that AOC monitor? Is it good?

very good for the price!! it is very bright, I ended up turning down the brightness to 35%, very smooth and functional, the rotating base and vertical adjust is nice as well. If you did not know this, AOC makes most of the bases and bezels for most monitor manufacturers also. I also added a picture of my setup, see last pic!

Nice build! I have the same case and CPU, but different MOBO and CPU cooler (Cryorig R1). So I am curious if you are still Overclocked at 4.5 ghz? have you pushed on further than that at all?

Again, Nice build! +1

Thanks for the compliment! i am indeed still overclocked to 4.5GHz, i haven't stretched it further due to being on a Corsair H60, if i had a H100 or something along those lines i would push it further, working flawlessly, haven't seen it go above 65 C, ty again!

Why the RX 480 why not the GTX 1060

literally the same card depending what games you play on it/optimized for the two different manufacturers, I wanted the ASUS Strix RGB as well, the Asus Strix GTX 1060 6GB OC RGB was over $305 dollars and still is, out of my budget. +/- 5-8% performance, you wont notice the difference at all, that's for 1080p/1440p. For the price point and no SLI support on the 1060 I decided on the RX480, (I may crossfire or go to the latest and greatest in a year or so(amd or NVidia)).

Have you messed around with the openGL and Vulkan settings? I was playing Doom and noticed those settings. After reading up on that it seems Vulkan benefits AMD cards more than nvidia cards. Does this system push up to 144 fps?

Indeed I have messed with the video settings in Doom, both Vulkan and OpenGL, TSSAA 8x, anisotropic 16x, Ultra. Indeed it does push up to and over 144FPS on Vulkan.
