Description

Started this build looking to upgrade, but the RGBs took on a life of their own when I saw the In Win 805 Infinity case. I am a huge Asus fan so when possible I went that (Aura/RoG) direction.

CPU- Intel 6800k - 6 core - i7

  • Pros: Lots of threads, low $ compared to retail

  • Cons: I think I got a lower binned one because it will only hold a 3.8 oc... :(

CASE - In Win 805 Infinity

  • Pros: Visually stunning, build quality, thick tinted glass, mirror effect still allows airflow for rads, many leds :P

  • Cons: Lots of pass through and holes that are quite visible (tough for Cable management ), bottom fan blocked if installing HDD tray, if using non-modular PSU its very visible, fingerprint & dust magnet

MOTHERBOARD - Asus Rampage V 10 Ed

  • Pros: Open box price, Aura details look great, enclosed i/o easy install, back plate is awesome

  • Cons: Only 1 RGB header, couldn't use audio attachment, only 2 internal USB headers

RAM - G.Skill Trident Z RGB

  • Pros: Look gorgeous, fast, easy XMP 2.0 profile use

  • Cons: No(led control or Aura) x99 support, beta drivers break DIMMs, no off switch

PSU - Corsair HX 850i

  • Pros: Fan rarely spins, quiet, fully modular

  • Cons: CL4 is support is spotty, ugly cables (replaced with CableMod ModMesh Carbon)

CPU COOLER - NZXT Kraken x62

  • Pros: Infinite mirror, quiet pump operation, COLD temps, audio beat matching, lots of led options (CAM)

  • Cons: Had to replace an x52 that died already, wires from pump are tough to tidy, no Aura interface

CASE FANS - Corsair HD120 x5 (w/ Lighting Node Pro)

  • Pros: Look gorgeous, really bright, quiet, individually controllable

  • Cons: Limited lighting options in CL4, show dust/dirt easily, no Aura interface

MONITOR - Asus 27" 4k IPS G-Sync

  • Pros: Super smooth 4k, lots of presets, stand is strong and very adjustable

  • Cons: Only Supports 60hz

GPU - Asus 1080 Ti Strix OC

  • Pros: Low Temps, Low Noise, Aura (+1 RGB header), 2 PWM fan headers

  • Cons: Big & heavy

Additional RGBs - Asus Claymore Core

  • Pros: Cherry Brown, Aura Sync, Metal Base, (mod - Vortex white key caps)

  • Cons: Louder then expected, heavy, Asus Armory messes up Aura

Additional RGBs - Asus Gladius II

  • Pros: 2 additional Micron switches, Aura Sync, fast response and polling rate

  • Cons: Asus Armory messes up Aura

Thanks for your feedback. Feel free to ask any questions you might have. More pics coming and hopefully a couple more videos of Aura in action.

(Last two pics included for Z270 fans, include ASUS ROG Maximus IX Code motherboard and an Intel 7600K clocked at 5.1. GPUs are Strix 1070s in SLI and a Strix 1080 with Mnpctech GPU support bar.)

"And I felt like I gazed at the light of a thousand suns, I lost my sight but I was happy"

Woah man, you can light up an airfield runway with that! ... nice! Puts my RGB to shame.

demmelha submitter 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

You have all the best words. thanks

WirelessCables 1 Build 4 points 1 month ago

Las Vegas much?

"Sir, this runway is supposed to be unlit. How do we know where to land?"

"Oh, it's fine. Some guy's PC in a house nearby will give us enough light."

+1

OrangeJuleas 3 points 1 month ago

This is like Las Vegas personified in a PC build. Love the Infinity case. This needs rainbow cables and a custom water loop (but then you wouldn't get to use that sweet x62 would you?)

+1.

demmelha submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Life is full of tough choices, and this was one for me. Maybe a loop when I swap out the Strix for the Poseidon....

Awd222 3 points 1 month ago

How does Star Citizen run on it?

demmelha submitter 1 Build 4 points 1 month ago

Missed the joke.

TheGateKeeper6 1 Build 0 points 1 month ago

Still like crap most likely.

TheRealJerimiahJohnson 1 Build 3 points 1 month ago

needs more desk.

The good news is that even though your OC is low, you still have 6 hyper-threaded cores.

Beats 4 every day in my book. Plus, I just don't like AMD.

demmelha submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Agreed, on all points. +1

so much rgb, it actually hurts

Sharnerean 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

Actually I like all the color. Some rgb builds look gaudy and out of place. But yours blends well. +1

Now remove the X99 and replace with Z270.

demmelha submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

ok. i have a couple weeks left on my microcenter return policy for the mb and a price protection on the 6800k, ill post up picks when I'm done, thanks for looking. oh wait.

ive already got a maximus code z270 and an i5-7600k. i can show you pics of those in this case with sli'd strix 1070s, if you'd like to see that see the last image added. sry you hate a chipset bro... :(

AMD_Delidded 0 points 1 month ago

Or X370.

Aslayer360 2 points 1 month ago

The case is so nice. The build is clean overall, and is great. One thing I loved about your build is that you managed the cables coming from the psu, and didn't leave them like some people do. Props to that! Loved the build, but, I would go with Ryzen xD! I'm just a team red fan. Overall, nice build, one suggestion though: Maybe a custom loop?

demmelha submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Thanks I really tried to hide everything I could. I will prob go custom loop when I swap out the Strix for an Asus Poseidon 1080 Ti. I feel like this case needs a Poseidon (or two).

Cruzaz 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

Just saying u could buy an RGB power supply

demmelha submitter 1 Build 6 points 1 month ago

ugh thermaltake...

Cruzaz 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

its decent

linford585 1 point 1 month ago

Awesome build! Out of curiosity, what made you choose that CPU when you could get 4 more threads from AMD for less?

demmelha submitter 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

Thanks! I already owned the 6800k and an x99 mobo when Ryzen was released.

turtlecyka 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

It's the sun

arkadialol 1 point 1 month ago

tbh the nzxt aer rgb fans look better but good build

CitizenoftheStars 1 point 1 month ago

This could replace my bedside lamp... Except better cuz more colours and creates a whirr that puts me to sleep.

Love the white keycaps btw.

demmelha submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

thanks, easy to get them dirty though

fortking 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

You need the razer firefly and an RGB psu. I wonder if i could stick a rgb fan in my psu and have it go to a fan splitter

FcoEnriquePerez 1 point 1 month ago

Looks like and LGBT build lol

mrzoltowski 1 Build 0 points 1 month ago

Nothing wrong with that :)

Otakami 0 points 1 month ago

He didn't say there was something wrong with it though?

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

this. this reply is the current state of the internet. Why do people get defensive over little things? The OP said something on a touchy subject, the guy that replied kept the mood light, and you came in with your "did you just assume" attitude. I'm not trying to hate on you personally, but just read the comment for face value man.

Otakami 1 point 1 month ago

Here is the thing though. The mood wasn't altered by anyone. No one would ever complain (at least on a website like this) about this topic. If everything is okay, why would you mention it if it's right or wrong? More importantly, all the OP indicated was how the build had an LGBT theme. He did not remotely or subtly hint at the morality of it.

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 28 days ago

(got busy with finals and abandoned pcpp for a while) this would have just blown over though if you hadn't been provoked to reply. If anything, the guy replying just stayed that he was an LGBT supporter.

WirelessCables 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

In terms of actual clown vomit...

I was thinking more along the lines of picture 3...

Gooberdad 7 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

Omg lol thanks for that.

Arichikurukuto 1 point 1 month ago

Ahhh a Player Unknown fan. Great game and can be slow if you're playing solo. Lots of fun to play in a squad. Great set up and even with all that RGB it still looks great. ;)

Piffi 1 point 1 month ago

AMD_Delidded 1 point 1 month ago

Padlock248 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

DeltaForceGM01 0 points 1 month ago

no rgb motherboard!!!!!!! wtf

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

the motherboard is rgb, look at the top left next to the ram sticks there is a small led strip that changes colors across the pictures

mountaindew1 0 points 1 month ago

he bought the firefly over the corsair one? poor decision

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

The leds on the firefly are more vibrant and there are a few more quality of life benefits to going with Razer. Also most of Corsair's software is ****.

mountaindew1 1 point 1 month ago

did you see the link i gave you or are you recovering from denail that razer sucks

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 28 days ago

I just got caught up with finals and didn't check pcpp in a while. (I was thinking of the less on keyboards when I said razer was more vibrant) tazer designed theirs for an under glow style, and although you need some know how, you can get the "zone lighting" that corsair has (though really I don't think 15 zones is even noticable to have different colors) and chroma apps is a feature unique to razer that I have to give major props for, I use it with Overwatch and its a very well done integration. Also with the length of most standard mouse cables, the USB at the top of the Polaris would probably be more of an annoyance than a useful feature. I guess in the end they even themselves out, but to be fair the Polaris is newer and they just fixed the mistakes of predecessors.

mountaindew1 1 point 28 days ago

i really like razers lighting on keyboards one thing over having plastic vs aluminum

Crigaas -1 points 1 month ago

Why X99 and not Ryzen?

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Why not? People have their reasons for staying Intel (Although I must give serious props to AMD, my next workstation will most likely feature a Ryzen chip)

Crigaas 1 point 1 month ago

You can get an 8 core for the price he paid for 6 cores, along with a CPU cooler. Ryzen has basically killed X99.

AMD_Delidded -3 points 1 month ago

NOOOOOO! YOU DID THE UNTHINKABLE! YOU HAD TO MAKE IT X99??????? :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
