This is my first custom computer and while it has been an absolute joy to both choose the part and put them together there has been some up and down. I still very much recommend building your own pc since the reward is so much more than a gaming machine but i would say choose your part more wisely than i have.
I built this computer around 8 months ago for gaming on my 4k television. I chose the 1080 so my build would be "futureproof". I am currently using a samsung 4k 55" tv along with my home theater (7.1) for a better immersion.
The idea behind the Jakobs was that I wanted a new smaller pc that would be more powerful than my last gaming computer but also would be much more beautiful. I did not just want another black box to set down and forget. Choosing both the colors and the design was not easy. In the end, I decided to go with one of my favorite game, Borderlands. Of all the crazy gun design and color the jakobs' were the one I liked best. All the wood and gold looked really good without being too flashy to the eye. So i decided to pull the trigger and hire an artist to do the painting for me (since my talent stop at making stick figure).
I would definitely recommend the fractal case, it was super easy to build in it and the cable management happens on its own. The graphic card is good but does run hot (at 4k max settings) and require a custom fan curve. The noctua cooler is really good and keep the overclock 1600 cool. It was also easy to install. I added a second fan to it for the general look but it did reduce the cpu temp by around 5c. Unfortunatly, the ram only go up to 2400 any higher and the computer does not boot. I still don't know if it is the motherboard or the ram that is at fault. Would not recommend the motherboard with this case since some of the connection are at weird places and makes the cable management that much more difficult. For example i cannot move the fan hub from that position since the fan connector on the motherboard is almost in the middle above the graphics card. Not much to say about the power supply other than I do recommend it. Storage wise i had bought the nvme before the ssd and unless you need that much speed i would not recommend it simply because ssd are more than enough speed for gaming (the boot up difference between the two is about 3 seconds, takes longer for the screen to boot up). I would also choose 1tb over 500 gb, 500gb fills up fast which is why I bought the ssd. (the nvme is really good just too much for my use)
Fan configuration: 2 140 mm at the front (in), 2 120 mm at the top (out) , 1 120 mm at the back (out) and 2 120 mm for the cpu cooler (out toward the back).
The noctua fan are awesome, they move a lot of air and do it quietly. I started with 2 120 mm at the front and 1 120 mm at the back. Eventually changed the 2 at the front for 140 mm since i felt the graphic card was running a bit warm. The difference between the two setup was almost 10c. So i put the 2 120 mm at the top which did not make much difference between just opening up the top or adding the two fans(either in or out).
Temperature: idle: cpu= 21c, gpu= 27c (0% fan), nvme= 25c, m.2 ssd= 27c timespy stress test (98,2% passed): cpu= 46c, gpu= 75c (95% fan), nvme= 42c, m.2 ssd= 51c
Things i would like to do in the future: -paint the graphics card cooler (waiting on the warranty to end since they have a void if removed sticker) -paint the 3 white pci slot -maybe make my own cables ( supplies are hard to find in canada and expensive)
Things i would change if i could go back: -not buy the m.2 nvme since I don't need this much speed (the m.2 ssd would have been plenty) -not buy the extra 2 120 mm fans -make the computer an itx one instead of matx (which feels too big for what i put in it)
Apologies for any spelling/grammar error, english is not my first language. Sorry for the bad photographs, I do not have a better camera. All prices are in cad and are what I paid without tax. If you have any question feel free to ask, I will answer to the best of my knowledge. Here is the link to the artist facebook page: www.facebook.com/hiziz/
