I built this computer to be my main workstation for everything I do - work, photography, Photoshop, and to be finally able to watch HD video, something I couldn't do with my aging single-core laptop. The i7-4770k's hyper-threading is really useful when you are working in Photoshop and browser multitasking at the same time.
The Intel HD 4600 graphics can run 4k content on YouTube without any interference. It's amazing how much processors have evolved over the years that you don't need a dedicated video card to play video at such a high resolution. Overclocked this CPU to 4.6GHz today with auto voltage set at 1.28V. The RAM I chose is not only low profile but also low voltage which means I can overclock it to 1866MHz while keeping a stable voltage. It's currently running 1600MHz at 1.35V.
This is my first time using a solid state drive and it's blazing fast, nothing like I've ever seen before. My new Samsung 840 Pro has average read speeds of 527 MB/s and average write speeds of 467 MB/s. Start and shutdown times are very fast, 15-20 seconds for a cold boot and 6-8 seconds for a warm restart. The 4TB WD drive is now my main storage for all my files without the need for an external hard drive. I ran an error scan with HD Tune Pro after installing the WD drive and it is absolutely clean with no errors or bad sectors. The scan took 8 hours to do but was necessary with such an expensive hard drive.
The H100i and 300r case compatibility worked fine for me because the Z87-A motherboard has short VRM heatsinks. For case cooling, there are two 140mm front intake fans and one 120mm exhaust fan in the back. The 660W power supply is for a future GTX 780.
Let me know what you think of my very first PC build. I'm loving it so far!
