Description

About the builder As someone said... not a tindr profile.

Introduction to the PC I had decided I needed to build my own PC when fallout came out and I was playing it at <20 frames at 720p at lowest settings. At that point I realized that my prebuilt is useless. I wanted to play Fallout and lots of the other new games that have already came out and will come out in 2016 but will my old prebuilt I couldn't have been able to do that. Now I will be. I also wanted my PC to be sufficient for many many future years with minor upgrades and be strong enough to handle my recreational Photoshop, Video Editing and my school work that consists of 3d modeling programs and software like Inventor.

I bought most of my parts from Newegg and Amazon, however I planned on getting the cpu and one ssd from a micro center. For all my parts I got most of my help from you guys here on Overclock.net however I did talk to people around the internet for more feedback.

Initially back in november I was planning a z170 Skylake build and I thought I was done but at the end of December someone was like why go skylake when you can get a 5820k build that is cheaper and performs better and while that put me back a month I decided I needed to go with the better option. Since I already knew all the good manufacturers and it was much easier making a list of parts to get the second time around. I think the builds ended up around the same price.

I screwed up twice To note I screwed up twice already being a dumb 15 year old. The first time was when ordering from Newegg I had ordered 2 of one of the expensive parts and had to cancel and reorder The second happened when I went to MicroCenter, I had bought my cpu but went wrong and got a m.2 850 evo instead the 950 pro m.2 that I intended to get. Then I had 2 of the same ssd except one is in m.2 format. I had to go back and exchange it to the right ssd as I wanted the m.2 drive to be my main drive and my boot drive with my os and hold my main programs and favorite game or two. But instead of having a smaller but much faster ssd I had another 850 evo and too much ssd space.

My biggest surprise yet was when the first item came. This Humongous box with my case came and I realized what a full tower chassis was. I had thought that a full tower was the biggest case but I had also thought that my old prebuilt was a full tower and expected a case of similar size, oh boy I was wrong. My old case turns out was either the smaller itx case or a mid tower Im still not sure as its so much smaller then this full tower. While I don't mind and think bigger is better everyone in my family walks in and is like "WOAH WHAT IS THAT!" However I love it's very beautiful.

The Build! The build tooking me a total of like 7 hours, Including the hour the next day it took me to make it work. On Sunday 2/7/2016 I started the build and was able to somehow put everything together. I ran into multiple problems while building it which had me taking out the motherboard out of the case twice but all in all everything went swell.

The problem I had was using the wrong cables for the psu and cpu but when I found that out I fixed it and did all the cable management the next day in an hour. When It booted I was so happy I almost cried. Other than the photo of the motherboard in the case I don't have any of the pics of while I was building it, I accidentally deleted them when transferring them from my camera. (oops)

Thoughts on the build While I was building the system I was thinking "EVERYONE LIED TO ME THIS ISN'T EASY AT ALL!" But now that I have finished my build and my system is up and running and I can play games and download software I can say "Building your own computer is very easy" I really think that I should have done some things differently especially with the cpu cooler which took the most amount of time. I'm also pretty sure I messed up the thermal paste but the temperature of the cpu is below 30c in Bios so I think i'm fine. I also touched the top of the cpu after installing it and didn't have a way to get my fingerprint off of it so I just moved on but now its kinda worrying me but its probably for no reason.

Hope you guys like it! Any recommendations? Im planning on switching the poster and little things hanging on the back wall to match the theme of the rest of my room soon. The first picture is a photo I posted on instagram after getting my computer to work the next pictures are my old setup and pc, then all my parts, then there would be pics of the building process but... Then pictures of my first boot and first time in Bios and one when windows is almost done installing. Then photos of my new setup. I ended up putting my old computer next to my new one and instead of going duel display I have 2 computers 2 monitors 2 PCs and 2 keyboards and mouses. The only bad thing in this though is that the only way for the whole setup to match one color I need to have it green. I included some pictures of my whole room so you guys see the the theme and kinda my style and why I choose black and white for all my parts.

Thanks to everyone who already gave me positive feedback when I just had one picture and link to overclock.net.

Part Reviews

CPU

Overall I got it $100 cheaper than a 6700k and it has way more cores. I don't know how to overclock this yet and am kinda scared to mess around with the Bios but will get to that soon enough.

CPU Cooler

Omg first of all the fans are really easy to attach and I was scared I wouldn't know how, second I thought this was one of the hardest things I have ever faced and spent 2 hours trying to find a guide on how to install this. I never did but I did eventually and was pissed I didn't sooner as it was really easy. Overall looks great, seems to be performing great and can say was a great buy.

Motherboard

Beautiful and great motherboard. Full of useful features.

Memory

Easy to install, had no problems didn't ever even need to worry one wasn't working or something like that. I set the xmp profile to the second one as it was 2666 latency but i'm not sure if its running at the correct frequency right now. The ram also looks pretty nice.

Storage

this thing is amazing, was really easy to install into the motherboard. Have never had a problem with it. Its incredibly fast and windows runs like lightning.

Storage

Have run a few games off of it and safe to say also a very solid drive that performs like expected and didn't let me down.

Storage

Cheap, good speed for a mechanical drive and has lots of space.

Video Card

So it came with a nice HDMI cable and looks and does just what is says and looks like it says it does. What? Anyway the only problem I had was my 1080p monitor didn't have an hdmi cable and only a DVI-E output and the Graphics card doesn't have one of those. So now i'm using my 1680x1050p monitor with Xena and my 1920x1080 monitor with my old computer. Now I have two computers in my setup which I never planned and you can see that in my last pics of my setup

Case

Have I said how big this is? Its very big, yet beautiful. The changing light feature is also very nice.

Power Supply

Cables that it came with are great, I also used my own cables to enhance my build though.

Keyboard

Sleek and Beautiful look. The colors are great

Mouse

I cant get used to having more than one profile. Good build and look.

Speakers

I got these in white and they really enhance my setup. I just need a white monitor now!

How's your fps with ultra shaders in minecraft? (noticed mc in one of the pics)

  • 2 points

I would imagine it would be around 60 or higher depending on the shaders used. SEUS for instance isn´t as optimized as Kuda but is still slower than say chocopics13´s (I have a 390X so it might not be exact) but i still believe that it would be playable. As long as you dont have like an 860K or a G3258 then the Processor starts to become more of an idle thing (My 4590 runs at around 53-73 and the system with my 4790K runs about 60-120, both with a 390X)

I have same card, I do Extreme Sildburs (I think thats the name) and If you max EVERYTHING it's about 40 FPS. But if you keep the depths at X1 then, I also have a 4790k, But I've found processing in MC is regular accross the board on 4 cores that are 3.00+

Use an alcohol rubbing pad for the Fingerprint issue if you're in a situation like that again :) Amazing build, great read! You are a very brilliant kid and got a bright future... lol wait I'm only 20. Still - great work man. +1

You could get some cable combs and make those 6 pin PEG connectors look really good.

Is that a NaVi mousepad?

Love Na'Vi! I have never heard of cable combs before lol, maybe I can find some.

Guardian and Dendi are my favorites.. I'm also Ukrainian and me liking them is influenced by that.

I'm an American, but I wanted a team to follow. I really enjoyed watching those two play, so I stuck around and kept rooting for them. GuardiaN is a beast with the AWP. Arguably one of their best players. Shame they lost Dreamhack 2015, they got so close. Guess you can't always beat KennyS

Congratulations on getting this built and working. It's very nice and clean. It should serve you well in H.S. and provide you with 100's of hours of gaming and homework. It's fast enough to perform well with consumer based video editing software also.

My only suggestion is to purchase a second Hitachi drive and set them up as Raid 1. This will nearly double the R/W access to the drive, which is what you will want when moving video projects to/from the SSD. You should do this soon because it typically requires reformatting the resulting single drive, thus loosing any data you have stored on them. Enjoy!

That was goal! Hopefully it can get me through college with upgrades too though! I will consider the upgrade and get another drive, right now I'm actually trying to figure out how I could get all my files from my 950ssd on to my 850evo or harddrive because all the programs I install the files are stored under Program Files under the 950 pro and I want all my files on the hard drive and only windows and specifically placed games and programs on my Nvme drive if you know what I mean? You think you could help me with this?

I'm hoping you have enough drive ports to hook up all the drives. Then you could transfer files form one to another using Windows Explorer. If that's not the case, you can purchase a cheap external USB3 drive for backups, backup the data, swap the drives, then restore the data you need. You can also try burning the data to single or double layer DVD's (max out at 8.5 GB) or upload them to a media server, like Google Drive. If you take the online route, you may need to upload/download a few times to get all the data transferred.

I'm gonna reinstall Windows and my drive should only have Windows then, from there I will just try to install more carefully

Good choice of component and color but personnaly i have one question and even after reading ur thread on Overclock.net i don't have found the answer. What do u will do with the 850 Evo SSD ? After all if i have understand u will use ur boot system and program on the M2 but if u want use ur second SSD for data and many movement it will be better to not have SSD but HDD.

u do realize you can make $2,280 while making only $200 every 2 weeks within 22 weeks right. That's about half a year, or in other words 5-6 months.

Now if it was $300 then.. 16 weeks.
