Description

At 33 years old, I decided to build my first PC. My 6 year old has been asking me for a "gaming PC" to play Minecraft on. Wife says we need a new computer so I decide to build a gaming pc capable of playing Minecraft haha.

I haven't owned a windows platform PC in nearly 10 years. I'm a console gamer that is transitioning over from an iMac desktop (yeah I know, I know).

I never would have thought that I'd build my own PC, but, thanks to a couple helpful folks on the forums, youtube and most importantly, friends, I was able to build a pretty damn good PC. It runs Minecraft flawlessly lol.

After I clear out my Xbox One backlog, I'll be moving on to the PC for Dad's gaming time.

The build itself was fairly simple with one major road block. The C70 case has a metal bar that was blocking my radiator from being installed with the coolant tubes facing the front. I ended up installing it with tubes facing the back as I didn't want to damage the cooler.

Other than that everything was smooth sailing. I can't believe that I didn't build one years ago! It was a great learning experience and I plan to build my desktops from now on. I'm looking forward to when my son's a little older so I can build one with him.

The photo of the parts doesn't include the green fans or the video card. I was still waiting on delivery when I started my build.

Part Reviews

CPU

Great CPU. I'm looking forward to learning how to overclock!

CPU Cooler

The cooler has been great so far. I love the corsair link software and the RGB lighting. It's definitely a little pricey though.

Motherboard

Good motherboard, great BIOS.

Memory

It's RAM and it's FAST!! Good stuff

Storage

This is my first experience using an SSD. I was blown away by how fast windows loads. This is a must have!

Storage

What can I say? Tried and true HDD from Western Digital.

Video Card

I've only tried the DOOM demo so far on Ultra, but it's amazing!

Case

I love the look of this case. There's plenty of space for everything. I did however, have trouble installing my liquid cooler at the top of the case.

Power Supply

I will never, ever, buy a non modular power supply again. live and learn.

Case Fan

Nice fans, acceptable noise. I'm loving the LEDs.

Monitor

I haven't had the opportunity to do very much gaming with this display yet, but so far it's a great value for it's cost.

I love the high refresh rate on that monitor. You should be able to play minecraft on this rig :)

I have that same mobo + ram combo. Have you turned on XMP to ramp up the ram speed?

Did I read that correctly? ''Minecraft''. I love how this is a Minecraft system. You can really expand on this if you want. Because holy dauuuuyym son that is overkill. Your 6 year old can play pretty much any game. (BUT CAN IT RUN CRYCIS)

I apologize if you didn't catch the sarcasm. My wife told me to get the kid a PC. So I took the opportunity to build one for him and myself.

I was being sarcastic. I apologize if you didn't notice that. Oh well. Nice system.

Nice build. Considered getting the same case for the option of portability. Then again who would be moving a desktop around a lot. Should be able get at least 34 FPS on Minecraft at medium settings on that build.

+1 for your 6 year old joining the master race

AT LEAST 34 FPS! LOL. he's a smart boy :). The handles are nice, but with the all steel construction, this is one heavy beast (which I like).

Yeah dude at LEAST 34, thats if you're lucky, might have to lower the render distance to 8 chunks. Hopefully those handles don't give out when moving it place to place

I don't think the handles will be an issue. This case is built like a tank. The handles, while small, are solid.

what do you think of the case? does it have a good airflow? do i need more fans than the ones included?

Sorry for the late reply. The airflow isn't the greatest. I added two fans to the window
