Description

Built: 5/20/17 First Upgrade: 11/14/17

This is my first build ever. I played console all my life and decided I should try something different. After a recent interest in computers as well as cyber security I thought I should save for a build. I didn't want anything too fancy/expensive such as 4k gaming. I just wanted something that could run 1080p gaming at a decent frame rate.

After building the machine I ran some tests to see how fast games ran. Overwatch ran at about 150 fps at 1080p Epic settings. CS:GO ran at a constant 300 fps with max settings. Lastly, Destiny 2 ran at 90-200 fps at max settings. The last thing I tested was virtualization to test different operating systems and to find vulnerabilities in certain systems such as Ubuntu, Windows, Server, etc.

My first upgrade was in November of 2017 I received a 144hz monitor, Corsair HD120 fans, and a blue yeti. I didn't think that having a 144hz monitor was that big of a deal, I always thought it was over-hyped. I was very wrong, everything looks extremely smooth. Now 60hz looks very different to me.

Overall this build is fantastic, I didn't think everything would play this well.

Thanks for reading!

Part Reviews

CPU

Very good processor if you are not looking to overclock.

CPU Cooler

One of the best budget CPU coolers on the market.

Motherboard

A fantastic budget motherboard with overclocking capabilities.

Memory

Needed lots of ram for virtualization. This has satisfied my needs.

Storage

A must need if you want fast startup times.

Storage

A fantastic hard drive for the size and price.

Video Card

A great graphics card. Comes with a cd to install an overclocking gui for easy overclocking.

Case

Best budget case on the market. Easy cable management and has a PSU cover.

Power Supply

A good budget power supply.

Optical Drive

Made installing drivers easier.

Case Fan

I've had many problems with the fan but refuse to give it a bad review. I installed them into my pc and they worked just fine. The only problems is the RGB lights on the fan wouldn't change out of its "demo mode" as the manual calls it. I changed the fans to purple and it lasted only a few seconds and went back into "demo mode" Contacted support and told me to return them. Other than that they turned my warm pc into a cool pc.

Monitor

Best frameless monitor.

Monitor

Amazing monitor. Some people have complained about the coloring but all you have to do it change the mode in the monitors settings.

Keyboard

Had this keyboard for a year, still works great. The RGB customization modes are amazing.

Mouse

The mouse feels great compared to most of the mice on the market.

Headphones

The sound from these headphones are outstanding. 7.1 sounds a whole lot better compared to regular headphones.

Custom

Not many people need this much RGB, but I guess if that's your thing have at it.

Custom

This was a great upgrade from the snowball ice. Good quality microphone.

Odd that you wouldn't go for a Kabylake or a Coffeelake, but nice

I built this before Coffeelake came out (wish i waited). I could've sworn my processor is Kabylake unless I'm wrong.

It says the case doesn't support the hyper 212 evo, it does fit obviously?

It indeed does fit, but barely. It just fits and is a few centimeters away from the door of the case. Although the cooler still works, I don't have a problem with it.

I love the Fierce red that's coming from the inside of your case

Is there a specific reason you have the CPU cooler oriented that way?

Cooler and the Motherboard didn't want to cooperate with each other forcing me to repositon the cooler. The air exhausts to the top now, but after installing the fans at the top everything turned out fine.

I currently have and i5 7400 and an MSI armor rx580 4gb. I plan on upgrading to that exact gpu!
